Web Development

We all know that “Websites” consist of individual “web pages”. HTML, CSS and JavaScript are technologies for creating web pages.

WHAT IS HTML, CSS, AND JAVASCRIPT?

Hyper-Text Markup Language (HTML) is a language for creating web pages. We use web browsers such as Google Chrome to see Web pages. A web page includes text, links, pictures, and even sound and video. HTML marks and describes each of these kinds of content so the web browser can display them correctly.

HTML can include Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and JavaScript within its code. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is used to make web pages created with HTML more visual. CSS helps to format and change HTML pages to look better. For instance, CSS can determine how all the fonts in a website will appear in a certain way. JavaScript is used to make plain and static HTML pages more interactive by adding features to web pages. For instance, you can add pop-up windows to a web page by using JavaScript.

How does knowing HTML/CSS/JavaScript can help me in the future?

HTML, CSS, and JavaScripts are the foundations of the web. Web developers and software developers can create interactive websites, webapps, and games through these languages.

Mastering HTML, CSS, and  JavaScript can help you with Angular, React, Vue frameworks for advanced web applications. JavaScript technologies like Node can be used to develop server applications, too. There are many career opportunities for people who are skilled in web development technologies.

Did You Know?

Did you know that HTML was made by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Did you know that Tim Berners-Lee invented the Web with HTML as its publishing language in 1989.

Did you know that there are many versions of HTML. The current standard is called HTML5 which allows you to create modern and dynamic web applications.

Our Curriculum

We offer a Web Development curriculum designed for students in grades 6-12. Our youngest students or students with no prior coding experience start with “Web/HTML/CSS/JavaScript Level 1” course. This course is beginner friendly and covers fundamentals of visual and block programming through game development and problem solving.

We offer 3 levels of Web/HTML/CSS/JavaScript courses with increasing difficulty and challenges. The curriculum is designed using a scaffolding approach and each higher level course is built upon the previous one with increased difficulty.  Each course typically takes 3-4 months to complete.

Once a student completes a Level 1 course he or she is eligible to compete in hackathons and challenges we host at WeLearnify. We guide our most advanced students from Level 2 and Level 3 courses to compete in local and national coding competitions.

For Every Level.

Beginner

Web HTML/CSS/JavaScript is designed for students who have basic computer literacies. The course is beginner friendly and covers fundamentals of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It is a perfect introductory course for web development and starting to write line based codes. We introduce young coders following concepts in this course: Introduction to HTML, CSS Styling, Designing a basic website, creating a web based tutorial, making website more interactive through JavaScript. Our hands-on projects are aligned with the programming standards developed by the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA). We implement a project-based approach in teaching this course with fun and interactive design of game projects.

Intermediate

The course builds upon Web/HTML/CSS/Javascript I course and intended for students who are at the intermediate level. This course covers more advanced functions of HTML and JavaScript with game based projects. We introduce young coders following concepts in this course:
Learning to use the “Canvas” element to create 2-D graphics, organizing the code with object literals and arrays, making a game that ticks, and learning how to add and process keyboard input thus making websites more interactive through JavaScript. Our hands-on projects are aligned with the programming standards developed by the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA). We implement a project-based approach in teaching this course with fun and interactive design of games and animation projects.

Advanced

The course builds upon Web/HTML/CSS/JavaScript II course and intended for students who are at the intermediate level. This course covers advanced functions of HTML and JavaScript with game based projects. We introduce young coders following concepts in this course: Coding a real-time game that runs on a 60-frames-per-second game loop to create 2-D graphics, creating more than one instance of an object, creating more advanced collision detection, and coding a simple piece of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to control the computer’s paddle. Our hands-on projects are aligned with the programming standards developed by the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA). We implement a project-based approach in teaching this course with fun and interactive design of games and animation projects.
